We are a community from all social demographics who are preserving the history and culture of capoeira.
Our school is proud of the diversity of our members. We believe that everyone should see themselves in capoeira and we strive to create that vision for anyone who visits us. We believe in growth through humility, open mindedness, acceptance and kindness. We meet our goals through hard work, accountability, self-discipline and respect. Capoeira is more than just a martial art. It is a way of life for many. People come to learn capoeira and learn about themselves.

Gio Mansilla5 StarJoining Capoeira Mandinga Detroit was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. I had always been fascinated by capoeira (since i was a kid and saw the movie "Only the Strong") and one day after mentioning it my wife found the school on google and she said "you should try it." Being a bigger/out-of-shape man at the time, it certainly seemed pretty far fetched.
That was 6 months ago- I started training with Sabia and what is now my capoeira family twice a week in Ferndale (super convenient location right downtown). The way Sabia teaches and motivates is genuinely inspiring- her dedication to preserving the oral history and culture of capoeristas, her vast musical knowledge, her skills playing capoeira and her patience and genuine care for members of her school has given me something to look forward to every week.
Now I train 3 days a week, both in the rochester tuesday class and twice a week in Ferndale. The changes in myself are palpable. I am healthier. I am a better person- I believe in myself, I seek out challenges to better myself, I have accomplished things with my body I never thought I could do, I have learned so much about this wonderful martial art and culture, I have learned new instruments and improved as a musician, and best of all- I have new friends, and we train hard together and learn from one another.
If you're reading this and you're on the fence, or are fascinated but don't think you can do it... Just try. If you would've told me I would play capoeira and sing in Portuguese in front of people last year, I would've said you're crazy. Now playing capoeira is something I look forward to every day. If you're an experienced capoerista and looking for a new school to call home- I look forward to playing you in the roda! Capoeira is for everyone!Friday 6th March 2020
