My daughter and I have been students of the Martial Arts Center for Excellence for nearly 3 years. We began our training during the pandemic, looking for a karate school that gave instruction virtually. I was a student of Sensei Mason’s many years ago as a kid, so when I learned the school offered virtual classes we signed up. I knew Sensei Mason to be an incredible teacher, which is why I chose to return to his dojo more than 30 years later with my own daughter. Our experience has been fantastic. We do not live in the area, but have enjoyed and benefited from the virtual classes so much that we have continued our training. Sensei Mason and the other instructors provide excellent instruction even over video. Although we are not physically in the dojo, they are still able to translate the proper technique effectively through the live video, and we don’t feel that we are a lesser level of instruction. The workout classes before the one-on-one instruction are intense but fun, and a great workout. During the one-on-one instruction we get the attention we need and everything is explained and broken down to make learning a new technique easier. Knowing Sensei Mason both as a child and an adult, I can attest that he is a demanding teacher who wants, and brings out, the the best in his students. The Martial Arts Center for Excellence is the real deal. If you want to learn effective karate technique from the best and be a part of a dojo where you must earn every belt advancement, you should choose this school. I’ve been a student in other martial arts schools, and the level of instruction, expertise, and the overall culture of self improvement at the Martial Arts Center for Excellence is unmatched.

I have been training at this dojo for 12 years. I am currently the rank of Ni-kyu (second degree brown belt). The knowledge, patience, care and experience of the instructors is second to none. Koei-Kan Karate was founded by Onishi Eizo Sensei in 1952. We are not only taught self-defense but also how to use our Karate in every aspect of our lives. I highly recommend this dojo.

I have known and trained with Sensei Mason for over 20 years. He is a very accomplished and effective Sensei (teacher), and a great person. If you are interested in a workout with the added benefit of learning how to defend yourself, this is the place to go!

Koei-kan is an excellent workout with seasoned Masters who are both patient and thorough. Sensei Mason and his instructors provide two-hour sessions which will both challenge your ability and also encourage you to improve.
